Tap "What cheese is this?" at the top of the Journal, then take a photo or choose one from Photos. If the label names a cheese in the library, it appears under "From the label". If it doesn't, or the cheese has no label, tap "Identify with AI" and Apple Intelligence looks at the whole photo on your device.
Tap "Ask AI instead" to have the whole photo looked at, or "Search the library instead" to pick the cheese yourself. A cheese that isn't in the library yet can still go in your journal. Type its name in the search and tap "Use" with your name for it.
Photo identification uses Apple Intelligence, so it needs iOS 27 and an iPhone or iPad that supports Apple Intelligence, with Apple Intelligence turned on in the Settings app. When it isn't available, the scanner says why, and reading the label still works on every device. Both work offline.
Three a month are free, and they start again on the first of each month. Cheese Lover Pro makes them unlimited.
Each date is a typical keeping time for that style of cheese once it has been opened, kept cold and well wrapped. Fresh cheeses get a few days and hard cheeses several weeks. Change "Best by" if your cheesemonger told you otherwise. "Remind me the day before" sends a notification at 6 PM the evening before. If reminders don't arrive, turn on notifications for Cheese Lover in the Settings app.
Syncing between devices comes with Cheese Lover Pro. Open Settings in Cheese Lover on both devices and check that "Sync with iCloud" is on, and that both devices are signed in to the same Apple Account with iCloud turned on. New tastings can take a minute or two to appear.
Tap "Send feedback" in Settings, or write to the address above with the cheese's name and what needs correcting. Corrections go into the next update.
Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Select Cheese Lover Pro to manage or cancel it. Everything you have recorded stays in the app, readable, editable and exportable. Pro features go back to their free limits and iCloud sync stops.
In Cheese Lover, open Settings and tap "Delete all my data". Read the confirmation before continuing. Deletion cannot be undone. To keep a copy first, use "Export journal as CSV" or "Export journal as JSON" in the same place.
